On December 14, 2006, WUF4 office of Nanjing organized the review and planning meeting of the emblem design of WUF4 and the overall planning of the forum.

A review committee composed of experts from Central Arts College, Nanjing University, Southeast University, Nanjing Arts College, Nanjing Normal University and Nanjing Gardens Bureau evaluated 184 entries of emblem design and selected 4 winning items and 17 qualified works and submitted the result for the approval of the WUF Nanjing Office and the Ministry of Construction. The approved works will be listed on line and the finals will be further reviewed by UN-HABITAT to decide the emblem to be used by WUF4. 

The competition of WUF4 emblem design started in November 2006. Widely publicized on line, the competition attracts entries from 21 provinces, many of which are innovative in thinking and exquisite in design, combining the features of an international event and the cultural elements of Nanjing as the host city. The review committee provides editing advice on the nominated works to highlight the theme of WUF4.
