Visa

In principle, except for those exempted from visa checks according to specific regulations, any foreign citizen should apply for a visa, prior to their trip to china, from embassies, consulates, agencies of the People’s Republic of China, Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macau Special Administrative Region and other agencies authorized by the Foreign Ministry (Please click here for detailed information on the websites and contact modes of visa-granting agencies.).

Each embassy and consulate of People’s Republic of China has its area of jurisdiction. In principle, applicants should apply visas from embassies and consulates governing their area of residence. Except for citizens of certain countries, who must apply visas from Embassy of People’s Republic of China in their country, applicants could apply visas from the nearest consulate of People’s Republic of China.

Once inside the territory of People’s Republic of China with an ordinary visa, should they want extension of or changes on the visa, foreign citizens must apply to public security offices (county level and above) authorized by the Ministry of Public Security.

 

To apply for a visa to the People’s Republic of China, you should present

  1. Passport with blank visa pages, valid for no less than 6 months from the date of application
  2. One copy of People’s Republic of China Visa Application Form filled with honest, complete and clear information, signed by the applicant
  3. Recent passport photo, full-faced and bare-headed (ordinary photos, Xeroxed copies or digital photos printed on ordinary paper are not acceptable)
  4. Other related application materials, depending on different reasons for entry into People’s Republic of China
  5. Other related application materials demanded by the visa officer
  6. When collecting the visa, the applicant should pay visa fees. Should you choose urgent service or extra urgent service, fees will be demanded accordingly

visa application could be presented by the applicant personally or other people chosen by the applicant out of free will. But this doesn’t apply to occasions that require the presence of the applicant, or if the visa officer demand a face to face interview with the applicant. The applicants are obliged to answer related questions from the visa officer.
